Springfield MatchSaturday, November 14, 2009 - 10:37:37 AM

It was a beautiful day in Olathe KS, as City took on one of the league’s top teams, Springfield MO.  Springfield with a record of 9-1-1, showed up determined to increase their standings.  City had their own agenda, and added some familiar faces to the lineup.  Scrum half Andy Dujakovich and center Mark Dunning not only added experience, but hard running, and great defense to the starting fifteen.

The first half was a defensive battle, but the first points were scored at 25 minute mark with a penalty kick by Brandon Naghshineh.  Then two yellow cards were issued for infractions around the ruck.  Springfield’s Center was penalized for hands in, and City’s flanker was dinged for not releasing.  These penalties lead to a City drive that opened the door for second row Nick Welchert’s pick and go two meter try.  Springfield scored a late try and the second half ended with two more yellow cards both for diving over, one to Springfield and one to City.

City put the gas on in the second half.  Fly half Brandon Naghshineh scored first in the opening minutes of the half.  That was followed up by a score off the wing by Ben Gorden.  Impact player Charlie Hirner entered the game and created a quick try for the forwards.  He broke a tackle popped off the ground to Paul Snider who was tackled and popped to Nick Welchert for his second try.  Springfield scored a late try, but it wasn’t enough to overcome City’s lead.  The final score was 25-12.

Man of the match was awarded at Westport Flea Market to Cameron Loechl for is play at hooker.

City is up next vs. Omaha at 1:00p at Mid America Sports Complex (Old Boys Appreciation Day).  Check the website for Training information.
